About the product#

Is JMXPress hosted, or does it run on our machines?#

On a machine you control. There is no public multi-tenant instance to sign up to. See Security practices.

Which engines does it support?#

JMeter, k6 and Gatling. JMeter is what everything is built around: recording produces a JMeter plan and the converters target JMX. See Converting what you have.

Do we need to install JMeter?#

The server needs a JMeter installation to run tests with. Machines generating distributed load need one too. Your browser needs nothing.

What does it cost?#

Plans and prices are not published, and there is no billing in the product — no payment integration and no plan stored against an account. Access is granted by an administrator. See Accounts.

Accounts#

How do I get an account?#

Either an administrator creates it, or you register and wait for approval. See Accounts and access.

Why was my password refused?#

Most often because it contains your own email address or its domain. See Accounts.

Can two teams share one installation?#

Yes. Organisations keep them apart, enforced by row-level security in PostgreSQL rather than by application code remembering to ask.

Tests#

Can I run a test without creating a project?#

Yes — drop a .jmx on the Run page. Nothing is saved that way, so the run will be harder to find later. See Projects.

My test passed but the numbers look wrong.#

Check the test data. A plan whose CSV is missing sends ${username} literally and measures nothing useful. See Troubleshooting.

Can a test start on its own?#

Yes. Start this test later instead of now on the Run page keeps the plan and its data on the server and starts it without anybody signed in.

Can load come from more than one machine?#

Yes, from paired computers. See Distributed agents.

Monitoring#

Which APM tools can it read?#

Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Datadog, New Relic, AWS CloudWatch and Azure Application Insights. See APM integrations.

Are our APM credentials safe?#

They are encrypted at rest with a key held outside the database row, never returned to a browser, and never written to logs, reports or generated test plans. Use a read-only credential. See Security.

Why is the server-side panel empty at the start of a run?#

Providers publish in buckets and ingest with a delay, so there is nothing to draw yet. The panel says Waiting for APM data rather than drawing a zero. See Live results.

Why do client-side and server-side numbers differ?#

They measure different things: one from outside the application, one from inside it. The difference is the network and whatever queues in front.

Diagnostics#

Can JMXPress take a heap dump from our server?#

Only from a machine running the agent, and only if diagnostics have been enabled in a file on that machine. See Diagnostics.

Why was our log file refused?#

Log folders must be listed explicitly in the agent's own settings, and a path outside them is refused on that machine.

Support#

How do I get help?#

support@jmxpress.in. No ticketing system.
